Temple peer educator pursues passion for health education

Meredith Kearney has always had a knack for talking about topics that can make other people uncomfortable. Student helps councilwoman bring public health to city hall

As a senior majoring in public health, Reyna Amit has come to appreciate how closely community health is connected to public policy. Since January, she has been putting that understanding to work as an intern with Philadelphia City Council, where she works with the staff of councilwoman Nina Ahmad. “For the past four years I've been studying issues from a public health perspective. Community project helps neighbors overcome vaccine hesitancy and Boost Their Shot

Since the COVID-19 outbreak four years ago, the College of Public Health’s Risk Communication Lab has been working with community groups to develop effective messaging that can combat misinformation and encourage people to protect themselves and others. Twelve faculty members from the College of Public Health were recognized as being among the top 50,000 scholars in the country, according to recent calculations from the AD Scientific Index. Schumacher awarded scholarship to share bariatric expertise at global conference
