The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics strives to enhance population health through rigorous research and effective training of the next generation of public health scholars and professionals. In our department, we combine curiosity with rigorous, applied methods that lead us to compelling questions and impactful results to improve public health.
We are located at the epicenter of public health opportunity. Philadelphia County ranks last of all counties in Pennsylvania on nearly every indicator of public health. Our hometown is the perfect place to explore the research questions that are most pressing and gain insight that will ultimately improve health.
Our faculty are committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary, community-engaged research, experiential training programs, and service to the profession.
The department's research strengths include chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention, reproductive epidemiology, substance use, infectious disease (HIV/AIDS), and water-related diseases.
