The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics strives to enhance population health through rigorous research and effective training of the next generation of public health scholars and professionals. In our department, we combine curiosity with rigorous, applied methods that lead us to compelling questions and impactful results to improve public health.

We live and work in Philadelphia, a microcosm of the world—a place to explore and answer questions that improve the public’s health in our community and around the world.

Our faculty are committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary, community-engaged research, experiential training programs, and service to the profession.

The department's research strengths include chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention, reproductive epidemiology, substance use, infectious diseases, and water-related diseases.
