The undergraduate and graduate scholarships below are available to students currently enrolled in a degree program at the College of Public Health and School of Social Work.
Students must submit a FAFSA in order to be considered for need-based scholarships. For information regarding the FAFSA, please visit sfs.temple.edu.

Undergraduate scholarships
College of Public Health Student Emergency Aid Fund
Established in 2016 by the College of Public Health’s Board of Visitors to provide financial support to students with a reasonable emergency that will interfere with or impede academic progress. Applicants must be in good academic standing to be eligible.
Mary, Gary and Douglas Ammon and Concerned Black Men Scholarship Fund
Established in 2014 by Mary and Gary Ammon and Concerned Black Men of Philadelphia, Inc. to provide scholarships for undergraduate students who have both financial need and academic merit, who are enrolled in the College of Public Health, and who live in the University’s North Philadelphia community, within the 19121, 19122, 19132, 19133 or 19138 zip codes at the time of application for admission.
Nellie M. Bering and Amy B. Hecht Student Emergency Fund and Student Financial Assistance Fund
Established in 2004 by Nellie Bering, former chair of the Medical Technology Department, and Amy Hecht, EdD, former dean of the College of Health Professions and Social Work, to provide emergency grants to any students enrolled in the College of Public Health based on urgent financial need including, but not limited to, books, food, rent, and utilities; and second to assist with tuition for students enrolled in the College of Public Health in the following programs: nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and health information management. If a Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or the equivalent, should be added in the future, students in that department also would be eligible for scholarships.
Temple University Dental Hygiene Alumni Club Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2016 to provide scholarships for non-traditional, degree-seeking students enrolled in the College of Public Health who have financial need and demonstrated academic achievement.
Dr. William Dayton Scholarship Fund
Established in 1986 by colleagues and friends of William Dayton, THM ’84, former faculty member in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, to provide scholarships for students in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in Temple University's College of Public Health. Recipients must be a recognized leader and role model for students and professionals in the field of recreational therapy with preference given to those serving people with disabilities.
Recreational Therapy Scholarship Fund
Established to provide scholarships for full-time students enrolled in the recreational therapy program who have demonstrated academic merit and financial need.
RT Wise Owl Award
Established in 2021 to provide scholarships for full-time undergraduate and graduate recreational therapy students who demonstrate a commitment to the field of recreational therapy and recreational therapy evidence-based practice.
Agnes L. Stegmuller Scholarship Fund
Established in 1995 by Agnes L. Stegmuller, EDU ’45, ’48, to provide scholarships for kinesiology, exercise and sport science, and health professions students who have completed their first semester, and who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.
Alice Cavanaugh Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by Gerald A. Huestis in memory of Alice Cavanaugh Huestis, EDU ’51, to provide scholarships for second- or third-year kinesiology, exercise and sport science, and health professions students who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Dorothy R. McQueen Memorial Award Fund
Established in 2001 by friends and family in memory of Dorothy McQueen, EDU ’30, ’37, a member of the Temple University Hall of Fame, to provide an annual award to an outstanding student in the kinesiology, exercise and sport science, and health professions programs. Recipients shall be a graduate of any of the high schools within the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania School District; have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities among his or her peers; a junior or senior pursuing a career in teaching.
Eva and Nathan Garfinkle Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 1988 by the family of Eva, EDU ’33, and Nathan, EDU ’31, Garfinkle to provide scholarships for junior or senior kinesiology, exercise and sport science, and health professions majors who are pursuing a teaching or leadership career and have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Annette and Marvin Black Term Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Mr. Marvin E. Black to provide scholarships for undergraduate students in the kinesiology, exercise and sport science, and health professions programs who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Reimann Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2013 by Barbara J. Reimann, CHP ’55, to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the College of Public Health who have financial need, show academic promise and express a first preference to teach in the field of health and physical education.
Class of 1963 Nursing Endowed Award Fund in Honor of Florence Brown
Established in 2008 by Eva Whitsel Pierce, CHP ’63, to provide awards for students enrolled in the bachelor of science in nursing program who have financial need, have demonstrated a personal determination and dedication to the profession, and have been actively involved in volunteer activities.
J. Russell Fawley Scholarships
Established in 2007 by the J. Russell Fawley Trust to provide scholarships based on academic merit and financial need for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the nursing program in the College of Public Health. Recipients are required to be permanent residents of Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania, with preference given to students who are permanent residents of the Roxborough, Manayunk and East Falls areas of Philadelphia, PA. The scholarships include tuition and program-related costs such as course fees, books and uniforms. Room and board is not included. Scholarship renewal automatically occurs every semester following confirmation of required GPA.
Mary Baltz Rehfuss Nursing Award Fund
Established through a bequest to provide an award in memory of Mary Baltz Rehfuss, CHPSW ’10, to a senior student in nursing who shows the highest achievement in clinical nursing practice.
Nan Angevine Apfelbaum Scholarship in Nursing
Established in 2012 through a bequest from Nan Angevine Apfelbaum, CPH ’60, to provide scholarships for students majoring in nursing who have financial need, with first preference for students who are graduates of a high school in the Philadelphia School District, and second preference to students who are graduates of a high school in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Nurses Alumni Association of Temple University Scholarship Fund
Established in 2003 by the Nurses Alumni Association of Temple University to provide scholarships for registered nurses enrolled in the bachelor of science in nursing program who demonstrate academic achievement and a commitment to a career in nursing.
Temma M. Herman and Lisa Herman Peskoe Memorial Fund
Established in 1996 by the family and friends of Lisa Herman Peskoe and Temma M. Herman to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the Department of Nursing who demonstrate financial need and exhibit scholastic achievement. Applicants should be first year, enrolled full time in the BSN program.
Helen M. Ettinger Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010. The fund may be awarded to student(s) in the College of Public Health's Department of Nursing with demonstrated academic merit and financial need.
TU Women's Club Scholarship Fund
Established in 1980 by the Temple University Women’s Club to provide scholarships to Temple University School of Dental Hygiene students who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Since the School of Dental Hygeine was eliminated in 1988, the fund has provided scholarships for nursing students who are enrolled full time and who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Mary E. Sigman Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2018 through the Mary E. Sigman Trust, to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the College of Public Health’s undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Students must have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to nursing students enrolled full-time.
Shogan Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2019, the Shogan Family Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship to undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in the College of Public Health. Recipients must be a permanent resident of Pennsylvania.
Nancy Hall Purtle (Nursing ’61) Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2018 to provide financial support for students enrolled in the College's Department of Nursing. Scholarships can be used for tuition fees, costs associated with room and board and other educational expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies and travel funds for conferences.
Independence Foundation Fellowship
Established in 1993 by the Independence Foundation to provide fellowships to students in the Department of Nursing.
Eudice Glassberg Scholarship Endowment
Established in 1988 by Sol Glassberg to provide scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Social Work who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Herbert R. Winston Memorial Fund
Established in 1980 by friends, family and colleagues in memory of Herbert R. Winston, former assistant dean, to provide annual awards for financially disadvantaged students in the School of Social Work, and for emergency financial assistance in other instances.
Opportunity Scholarship Fund
Established in 2005 by Barbara B. Ernico, SSW ’71, and Jeffrey A. Ernico, LAW ’70, to provide scholarships for students with financial need who are enrolled in the bachelor of social work program in the School of Social Work, with a preference for students with disabilities.
Sherman Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2012 by Kate Perry to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Social Work, with preference given to an undergraduate or graduate student with financial need, a GPA of 3.5 (or higher), and a demonstrated interest in working with individuals dealing with mental health issues.
The Honorable Earlene Green Award Fund
Established in 2005 by Judge Earlene Green, SSW ’88, ’89, to provide awards for outstanding graduating undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Social Work who plan to pursue a career in social work either in addictions or criminal justice.
Virginia Welsh Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by a bequest from Virginia Welsh, SSW ’74, ’75, to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Social Work, who have demonstrated academic merit and financial need.
Mildred R.L. Morris Memorial Award Fund
Established in 2002 by Jerome A. Atkinson, in memory of Mildred R.L. Morris, to provide an annual prize to the undergraduate student whose work in a social service agency during the academic year best embodies the application of theory and practice in solving social problems by enhancing the quality of life for individuals, families or a community.
The Lindberg Family Scholarship Fund (Term Fund)
Established in 2012 by Brian and Laurie Lindberg to provide scholarships for full-time undergraduate students with financial need and academic achievement who are enrolled in the School of Social Work, and who have shown interest in aging policy and/or elder justice issues.
Ceyenna Bennett-Davidson, SSW ’98, Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2021, the purpose of the Ceyenna Bennett-Davidson, SSW ’98, Memorial Scholarship Fund is to provide a $2,000 annual scholarship for a high-achieving, full-time student with demonstrated financial need who is enrolled in the bachelor of social work program. Special consideration shall be given to students who, like Ceyenna Bennett-Davidson, BSW ’98, exhibit tenacity and selflessness, and who participate in or are members of culturally-based campus organizations offered through Student Activities that celebrate and uplift diversity and inclusion.
Pina De Luca Fratamico, PhD Scholarship Fund
Established in 2020 through the generosity of Pina De Luca Fratamico, PhD, the Pina De Luca Fratamico, PhD Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Public Health who are pursuing a bachelor of science in public health.

Established in 2013 by David R. Devereaux, FOX ’86, to provide research grants to graduate students enrolled in the College of Public Health, offering the opportunity to engage with faculty in research that builds knowledge about health, well-being and opportunities for people and their communities.
Jill Brandis Memorial Visionary Research Fund
Established in 2013 by Robert R. Brandis to provide research grants to graduate students enrolled in the College of Public Health. The Fund is designed to support the efforts of doctoral students to engage with faculty in research that builds knowledge about health, well-being and opportunities for people and their communities.

Shire Fellows Fund
Established in 2005 by Shire Pharmaceuticals to provide fellowships for either graduate students or post-doctoral students enrolled in the College of Public Health, who plan to pursue a career in the psychopharmacology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ("ADHD"), or the psychopharmacology of ADHD and other related problems.

Addella DiLeonardo Term Scholarship
Established in 1989 to provide scholarships for graduate students enrolled in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.
Ellen Schwartz Scholarship Fund
Established by Ellen Schwartz, CPH '69, in 2015. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for graduate students enrolled in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, or its successor department, with academic merit and financial need, with a preference for students who are bilingual.
Sandy Schinfeld Endowment for Public Health
Established in 2008 by Jay S. Schinfeld, MD, in memory of his wife Sandy Schinfeld, to provide financial support for PhD students, including but not limited to providing seed money for student research and providing funds to assist students in completing their dissertations.
William C. Gross Scholarship Fund
Established in 2007 through the estate of Dr. William C. Gross, CHP ’79, to provide scholarships for doctoral students.
Jill Brandis Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1988 by Mr. Keith Goodman to provide scholarships to second-year occupational therapy graduate students who demonstrate those qualities identified with Jill Brandis including peer support, honesty, spiritual strength, optimism, energy, academic excellence and magnanimity. Preference given to students who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Dr. Helen Hopkins Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2012 to provide scholarships for full-time graduate students with demonstrated academic merit and financial need who are enrolled in the College of Public Health's clinical doctorate in occupational therapy (OTD) program.
Hyman L. Dervitz Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 to provide scholarships for full-time graduate students with financial need who are enrolled in the College of Public Health's physical therapy program, with preference given to students who have documented volunteer service, are active in community service, are active in community-related organizations and have participated in athletic or physical fitness endeavors.
Kader/MacKarey Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 by Dr. Richard A. Kader, Paula B. Kader, Dr. Paul J. MacKarey and Esther MacKarey to provide scholarships for full-time graduate students with financial need who are enrolled in the College of Public Health’s physical therapy program.
Matt Williams/MPT 2002 Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Matt Williams Scholarship was established in memory of Matt Williams, a member of the Temple Physical Therapy Class of 2002. The scholarship is awarded to second-year doctor of physical therapy students who are nominated by fellow classmates and who embody Matt's spirit and love of physical therapy. Matt was loved by his classmates and all who knew him for his sense of humor, enthusiastic outlook, courage and caring spirit. He loved being part of the Temple community and especially loved being a student in the physical therapy program at Temple. Anatomy was his favorite subject and he was an enthusiastic tutor. Matt had a servant's heart.
Faculty and Alumni Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the College of Public Health's physical therapy program, with preference given to students from population groups underrepresented in the field of physical therapy.
Rachelle DiSalvio Scholarship
The Rachelle DiSalvio Scholarship is awarded to third year Doctor of Physical Therapy students. Rachelle, a student in the Temple PT Class of 1990, was respected and loved by all for her dedication to the Temple program, her kindness, effervescence and diligence toward her studies. The award, funded fully by fellow students from Rachelle's graduating class, honors third year Doctor of Physical Therapy students who have overcome personal and professional difficulties while working to attain the goal of becoming a physical therapist.

Dr. Carole Oglesby Scholarship Fund
Established in 1998 by Deborah Larkin in honor of Carole Oglesby, EDU ’99, a respected member of the Temple faculty, to provide scholarships for graduate students majoring in kinesiology who show scholarly and leadership promise in the area of African American women in sports.

G. Morton Illman Trust Nursing Scholarship
Established in 2016, for the Nurses Alumni Association, to provide financial assistance to nurses or graduates of Temple University's College of Public Health's Department of Nursing.
Mary E. Sigman Endowed Scholarship

Kal and Lucille Rudman Nursing Practice Scholarship Fund
Established in 2019 by Solomon "Kal" Rudman and Lucille Rudman, the Kal and Lucille Nursing Practice Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students enrolled full-time in the College of Public Health's Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The purpose of the fund is to provide a one-time, non-renewable $10,000 scholarship to exceptional Doctor of Nursing Practice students. Candidates for this scholarship must be high-achieving graduates of a BSN degree program who have demonstrated a commitment to becoming an advanced practice nurse, with preference given to graduates of Abington, Lower Merion and Masterman High Schools.
Alfred W. Dean Sr. Scholarship Fund
Established in 2007 by Alfred W. Dean Jr., SSW ’72, ’74, to provide scholarships for seniors or graduate students enrolled in the School of Social Work who have financial need and who either have a law enforcement background or are planning to pursue a career in law enforcement, with preference given to minority students.
Curtis A. Leonard, PhD, and Jacqueline H. Leonard Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by Dr. Curtis A. Leonard, former dean of the School of Social Work, and Jacqueline H. Leonard to provide scholarships for academically talented students enrolled in the master’s degree program in the School of Social Work.
Deborah Harris Memorial Fund
Established in 1983 by family and friends of Deborah Harris, who was a graduate student in the School of Social Work, to provide for an annual award for a graduate student from Temple University's School of Social Work, who wishes to pursue a career in criminal justice. The fund may also be used to offer an annual grant for research on violent crime, particularly its impacts upon women.
Dr. Grace Ganter Memorial Fund
Established in 1987 in memory of former faculty member Grace Ganter to provide for an annual prize to the student in the Master of Social Work program who has demonstrated overall excellence in the pursuit of graduate studies.
Kimberly Caton, CLA ’88, SSW ’94, Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by Sydney and Thomas Caton to provide scholarships for Temple University graduate students enrolled in the Master of Social Work program who have an interest in the field of child welfare, and demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.
Kristin Federici Bowser Memorial Award Fund
Established in 2013 by Christopher Federici, Kathleen Federici and Christopher Bowser to provide an annual award for students of academic achievement (3.5 GPA) and professional leadership who are enrolled in the master of social work program in the School of Social Work who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the Temple social work program through leadership activities and to the social work profession through generous professional self-development, perhaps with a focus on child and maternal health, similar to that exemplified by Kristin Federici Bowser.

The Diamond Award is the highest recognition by Student Affairs given to a Temple University undergraduate student. This recognition is based on a holistic evaluation of the student’s accomplishments. The award is reserved for those who have demonstrated superior leadership, academic achievement, service to the University, and impact on a community (local, regional, or global). Learn more.
This award is presented to a Temple University Student in good academic standing who demonstrates University leadership as well as service to the broader community. Preference shall be given to students with financial need who are from a Philadelphia High School. Learn more.
The Marc David LGBTQ Scholarship provides academic financial support for an undergraduate Temple student active in the LGBTQ community. Preference is given to students with financial need, but active leadership and advocacy for LGBTQ causes is paramount. Learn more.
