Biography:

Thomas Gordon is senior vice president and chief information officer for Virtua, one of New Jersey’s largest health systems. In his role, Gordon oversees technology initiatives and strategy for all of Virtua’s operations, which include four acute care hospitals, four health and wellness centers, seven ambulatory surgery centers, three fitness centers, four urgent care centers, two long-term care and rehabilitation centers, and 12 paramedic units. He is also responsible for IT in Virtua’s primary and specialty physician practices with 300 practitioners, home health services, and a wide range of outpatient services. He manages a highly integrated infrastructure consisting of more than 300 applications, a robust network, telecommunications and production and disaster recovery data centers.

Gordon has more than 25 years of information technology experience in health care and banking, and extensive leadership in health care. He has been affiliated with Virtua since 1997, where he has managed web platform technologies, application development, and integration, database and business intelligence teams. Gordon has had a critical role in preparing Virtua’s technology to adapt to the Affordable Care Act’s Meaningful Use, including strategies for Health Information Exchange and personal health record.

Gordon began his career in banking IT, where he rose to lead application development for the First Union National Bank, now Wachovia. Today, many of his programs are still in use. Gordon is a member of the national Healthcare Information Management Systems Society as well as the NJ society chapter.

Gordon received a BS in Management and Information Systems from LaSalle University and an MBA from St. Joseph’s University – Erivan K. Haub School of Business.
