The Exercise is Medicine Laboratory uses an implementation science-based approach to examine the integration of physical activity into different health systems, optimize clinic- community linkages, and engage patients in evidence-based physical activity and chronic disease prevention programs. Current projects within the laboratory include innovative methods for providing physical activity training to current and future healthcare providers, promoting physical activity through low resource health settings (e.g., Federally-Qualified Health Centers, community free clinics), integrating physical activity into health systems for specific patient populations (e.g., pregnant women, older adults, individuals with diabetes), and examining the role of navigators in connecting patients from health settings to community- based physical activity resources. Research collaborations and projects take place both in the U.S. (urban and rural) and in global (Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America) settings.
