Paul DiLorenzo and Sandra Davis have joined the College of Public Health's Board of Visitors (BOV), an appointed advisory board comprised of a distinguished group of alumni and partners who bring a wealth of experience from the fields of public health, healthcare and health services, and social work. Together with the CPH executive team, the BOV helps the college fulfill its mission to prepare future researchers, practitioners and educators; address community needs; create evidence-based solutions; and deliver effective, compassionate care.

"I am delighted to welcome back Dr. Sandra Davis and Mr. Paul DiLorenzo, previous Gallery of Success winners and proud alumni, to the College of Public Health as members of our Board of Visitors," said Jennifer Ibrahim, interim dean. "They bring great energy and insights from highly successful careers in nursing and social work, respectively."

DiLorenzo has a long connection to Temple. He received a master's degree in social work from Temple in 1978 and has served as part-time faculty member in the School of Social Work.

"The school influenced me a great deal," he said, "especially the forward-thinking nature of the school's approach to training social workers, which is to incorporate social justice issues into your work with clients and with families. A key to the Temple methodology is understanding that people function in environments that are challenging and can make family life and individual life more difficult. Temple also was one of the few schools that welcomed me as a part-time student. I had to work an extra job to pay for my tuition, and they were able to accommodate my schedule. I think that's even more important today."

DiLorenzo is executive director of the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation, an independent consultant and child welfare subject matter expert with over 40 years of experience and holds a certification with the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). He is a senior fellow at the Child Welfare League of America. In addition, he serves as a subject matter expert for public and private child welfare agencies that are developing and implementing child abuse and family crisis prevention programs.

He began his career as a caseworker and then served in various administrative and leadership roles. He led large nonprofit agencies and federal and state-funded projects as a consultant in multiple jurisdictions and was the director of children's policy for the City of Philadelphia. He also spent 13 years as a senior director at Casey Family Programs.

Sandra L. Davis is a proud Temple graduate, where she earned a BS in nursing as well as DPM from the School of Podiatric Medicine. She also earned a PhD from Drexel University, a MS in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and BA from Wellesley College.

Davis is a leading expert in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in both academia and public health. She is an associate professor and assistant dean for DEI at the George Washington University School of Nursing. Previously, she was the director of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program.

In 2018, under her influence and leadership, George Washington University was awarded the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award (HEED). The HEED award recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. It is the only national award that honors institutions for their commitment to making diversity and inclusion a top priority.

Davis currently serves as a director at-large for the College of Public Health Alumni Association and chair of the inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, which provides strategic counsel and service in the development, advancement and promotion of alumni-centric diversity, equity, and inclusion programming and initiatives.
