Jamie Reilly, an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and director of the Memory, Concepts, and Cognition Lab, has accepted an invitation from the National Institutes of Health to serve as a member of the Language and Communication Study Section, Center for Scientific Review.

The appointment begins July 1 and extends through 2021.

“Being asked to serve as a member of an NIH study section is a tremendous honor and great recognition of Dr. Reilly’s contributions to the field of communication disorders,” said David B. Sarwer, the college’s associate dean of research.

As key figures in the NIH grant review process, Study Section members bear a unique responsibility in their contribution to national research efforts. Members of the Language and Communication Study Section are selected for the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific achievements in their field. LCOM members hold expertise in language perception, production, and development; perceptual and cognitive processes related to language; nonlinguistic communication; relations between language and thought; and the foundations, assessment, and treatment of linguistic abilities and disorders.

Dr. Reilly’s current research investigates conceptual memory and the treatment of dementia-related language loss. As principal investigator on a five-year grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communicative Disorders, he is investigating the effectiveness of a unique language therapy for Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia.
