In 2018, more than 900 individuals in Philadelphia died from an opiod overdose—and more than 4% of those deaths occurred in young adults aged 15 to 24. In 2019, opioid overdose deaths in this age group increased slightly, and the death rate increased substantially in persons of color. Opioid overdoses can be reversed with naloxone (Narcan), which is available to all Pennsylvanians.

The "My Lens...Our Issues" project, led by CPH faculty Deirdre Dingman and Marsha Zibalese-Crawford, aims to reduce stigma and mitigate barriers to treatment and recovery within our Philadelphia community. As part of this project, we are facilitating virtual overdose reversal trainings through the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services (DBHIDS).
