Biography

Shannon L. Johnson, EdD, MSW, is a senior academic advisor working with public health graduate students in the social and behavioral sciences program (MPH and PhD) and in the nutrition program (MPH). Before joining the Temple team in 2021, she worked at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she developed and oversaw a degree completion program for undergraduate seniors who stopped out, trying to help them return and graduate. She also worked at Utica College in central New York as the director of the Graduate Studies Office. Prior to that, she worked in student affairs in campus-based women’s centers at NC State University and Duke University. Shannon is passionate about providing holistic academic support to students, and her areas of interest include adult learners, retention, first generation students, and equity and inclusion. In her free time, Shannon enjoys knitting, scuba diving and underwater/nature photography.
