Biography

Dr. Kavya S. Nair is an instructional faculty member in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Temple University. She has extensive academic and clinical experience in neurological and pediatric physical therapy. Dr. Nair’s training includes an entry-level physiotherapy bachelor's from the Mahatma Gandhi University, India; a master's in neurological physiotherapy from the Mahatma Gandhi University, India; and a PhD in rehabilitation science from University of Florida. Dr. Nair’s research is focused on monitoring disease progression in Duchenne muscular dystrophy using magnetic resonance biomarkers and functional outcome measures. She has also worked for many clinical trials at ImagingNMD, University of Florida. Her extensive interdisciplinary clinical research training and experience as a physical therapy educator has evolved her teaching philosophy to strongly embrace and emphasize the use of evidence-based practice to improve the effectiveness of physical therapy care for patients. Dr. Nair is an advocate of diversity, equality and inclusion in physical therapy curricula, and her teaching mission is to inspire the spirit of enquiry in students, challenge their assumptions, and train the next generation of physical therapists to become leaders in physical therapy profession.
