Biography

Jennifer Brown is an assistant professor in Temple University’s College of Public Health. She became a registered nurse in the Temple University Health System, Episcopal School of Nursing and obtained her RN-BSN and master's degrees from Gwynedd Mercy University and her doctor of nursing practice degree from Walden University. Dr. Brown is a third-career RN with over a decade of experience caring for critically ill patients in various ICU settings, including internal medicine, cardiac, surgical thoracic, neurology, and neurosurgery, and over 15 years of experience in operational leadership.

Dr. Brown has had many years of proven success in the preparation of students in the accelerated bachelor of science in nursing program and has been instrumental in the design and revision of innovative curriculums. She has been focused on ensuring students' success through pedagogy and clinical practice while promoting positive outcomes for vulnerable populations in the classroom and the community. This focus has led to her involvement in community projects that address the needs of the underserved and disenfranchised. She is a leader, educator, and change agent who is passionate about utilizing advanced clinical judgment, systems thinking, and effective delivery of evidence-based care to ensure outstanding preparation of nursing graduates to meet the current needs of society and improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Brown has served as faculty advisor for the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (2016–2021) and vice president (2018–2020) and current president of Iota Kappa, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. She has precepted students in the master of science in nursing program (nurse educator track) and mentored students pursuing their doctor of nursing practice (DNP) studies (AACN 2020–2021). She is also a member of the National League of Nurses, American Nurses Association, GNSA Mentoring Program for the 2020–2021 Academic Year, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and the Black Doctoral Network.

Her doctoral capstone project focused on nurses’ knowledge of the impact of nutritional assessment of patients in the intensive care unit. Her healthcare interests include disparities that result in adverse effects on patients' nutritional status among other social determinants of health. Dr. Brown enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
