Biography

Amita Avadhani, PhD, DNP, NEA-BC, CNE, DCC, ACNP-BC, NP-C, CCRN, FAANP, FCCM, is a professor and chair of the nursing department at Temple University College of Public Health. She is a certified nurse educator and nurse executive with extensive academic, clinical and leadership experience. Prior to her appointment at Temple University, she served as professor and director of the post-master's doctor of nursing practice executive model program at Rutgers University School of Nursing in Newark.

Dr. Avadhani's educational preparation includes a PhD in psychology, a DNP and an MSN. She is nationally certified as a nurse executive-advanced (NEA-BC), certified nurse educator (CNE), an acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP-BC), an adult primary care nurse practitioner (NP-C), a diplomate of comprehensive care (DCC) as well as a critical care RN (CCRN). She has earned many state and national awards including the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Nurse Practitioner Advocate Award for 2021, the New Jersey Institute for Nursing Diva Award for 2022, and CARES Award-Honorable Mention for 2023. Her research and scholarship experience includes infection prevention, quality of work-life and nursing education.

Dr. Avadhani’s expertise includes teaching, curriculum development, leadership, accreditation, academic clinical partnerships, scholarship and service. She has a track record of leading and managing projects successfully. She has an established regional and national reputation as a nurse leader through her work with professional organizations. Her current professional organizational leadership positions include Region-2 director of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners to represent New Jersey, New York and Puerto Rico; SIGMA North America Region-14 coordinator to represent New York and New Jersey; the past chairperson of the Society of Critical Care Medicine Advance Practice Nurse-Professional Development Committee; and past chairperson of the New Jersey-Lung Association Leadership Board. Owing to her accomplishments as a nurse practitioner, nurse educator and leader, she has received national recognition through her fellowships in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) and the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM).
