Biography

Dr. Foley received her BS in health information management in 1984, an MBA in health administration in 1994, and a PhD in public health in 2005, all from Temple University. Her research interests include uses and quality of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS data and the role of clinical vocabularies such as the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) in electronic health record systems.

Dr. Foley has over 30 years of experience in various aspects of health information management and education. She has held the position of director of HIM for a large acute care teaching hospital and a psychiatric facility. Maggie also provides consultations on inpatient reimbursement and coding, auditing and ICD-10-CM/PCS education.

Dr. Foley has also held various volunteer positions in national, state and local health information management professional associations; for example, on the ACDIS Annual Meeting Program Committee, the AHIMA Clinical Terminology and Classification Practice Council and as a PHIMA Delegate to the AHIMA House of Delegates.
