Awards and Accolades
Ann Dolloff was awarded the Jim Winters Volunteer Award through Move United for her work with the PA Center for Adapted Sports.
Jamie Mansell was awarded Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer from the National Athletic Trainers Association.
Amy Lynch received the Social Innovations Award for Education Entrepreneurship for her PREPPS work.
Cynthia Abbott-Gaffney was named a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation.
Jazmine Tooles was named President-Elect for American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) PA.
Jamie Mansell was named President-Elect for Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society.
Stephen Lepore received the faculty Senate Service Award.
Dierdre Dingman received the CPH Teaching Excellence Award.
Jingwei Wu received the CPH Teaching Excellence Award.
Presentations
Jay Fagan gave a briefing on fatherhood research to the U. S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy. The briefing, "How does involved fathering promote health and wellbeing? Let us count the ways," was attended by Surgeon General Dr. Murthy, his team, and a small gathering of fatherhood researchers. The briefing focused on trends in fathers' involvement with children, effects on child development, and fathering programs and interventions in the U.S.
Yaara Zisman-Ilani presented "Co-creating the first patient experience measure of shared decision making in mental health" at the Qualitative Health Research Network (QHRN) Conference in London, UK.
Christopher Wheldon gave a seminar for the Mountain West HPV Vaccination Coalition on February 13 titled, “Expanding the reach of anal cancer prevention efforts: Needs and Opportunities.”
Philip McCallion and other members of the research team for the Intellectual Disability Supplement to The Irish longitudinal Study on Ageing presented 14 papers at the 2024 Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference "New Horizons In Healthcare: Global Impact, Local Relevance'. Papers were drawn from the recently completed Wave 5 data collection and addressed social supports, health care utilization, oral screening, medication utilization and consequences, mental health, COVID-19 effects, constipation management, sensory processing, menopause, and physical activity levels. The overall project and team were also the group winner of the conference's Research Impact Case Study Competition.
Jingwei Wu presented “Bridging Growth Opportunities: from Collegiate Novice to Collegiate Educator” at the Michigan Public Health Connect Alumni Spotlight. Wu also presented "Turning Coursework Presentation into a Vivid Research Product: A Journey towards Innovation and Appreciation" at the College of Public Health Teaching Symposium.
Other Activities
David Sarwer was named Co-Chair of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Research Section.
Yaara Zisman-Ilani served on the following National/Federal Review Panels: AHRQ Healthcare Effectiveness and Outcomes Research (HEOR) Study Section, NIH/NIMH Mental Health Services Research Committee (SERV) Study Section, and NIH/NIMH Special Emphasis Panel (SEP) for the BRAIN Initiative: Research on the Ethical Implications of Advancements in Neurotechnology and Brain Science (R01) Study Section.
Laura A. Siminoff was appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Principles and Framework to Guide the Development of Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures for Face and Hand Transplants Committee.
Edwin Maas is an investigator on a project funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation exploring the use of noise-augmented automatic speech recognition to improve intelligibility in Parkinson's disease.
