Dean's Message

Jennifer Ibrahim, Dean, sits at an event with staff

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the College of Public Health.

As the Dean of the College of Public Health at Temple University, it has been my privilege to witness our College's remarkable evolution and growth since 2005. Our core mission remains steadfast: advancing health and well-being with a deep commitment to equity and diversity. We are a vibrant and collaborative community of students, staff, and faculty, brimming with opportunities to make a meaningful impact on individual, community, and population health. The people here infuse our College with energy, enthusiasm, innovation, and tenacity, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued.

Our College stands apart from traditional schools of public health by embracing an interdisciplinary approach to tackling both individual and population health issues. We proudly house six departments and a School of Social Work, covering a diverse array of fields including public health, social work, health professions, kinesiology, exercise science, and various clinical disciplines such as nursing, athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and recreational therapy. With over 20 disciplines and more than 50 academic programs, we are deeply committed to fostering interprofessional education, practice, and research.

We are united in our mission to:

  • educate our students and provide continuing education for our alumni and community partners;

  • innovate in our research to find solutions to the challenge that threaten health and well-being; and

  • transform the evidence we are generating in our research into actionable ways to improve health.

In our local neighborhoods and around the globe, we face a wide range of health challenges, and we know that it is only together that we can address them—collaborating with our colleagues and community members to ensure that the knowledge and skills built within our college are translated into real-world impact.  Our students, faculty and alumni work side-by-side with communities, whether through local service, clinical care or research that inspires new practices, policies, and programs. Central to this college is our commitment to making a difference, a responsibility we hold with cultural humility and a deep understanding of the personal impacts of public health.

Across the pages of our website, you will learn more about the incredible work of our innovative students, our award-winning faculty, our dedicated staff, our highly successful alumni, and the generosity and support from our donors. Whether you are already part of our College of Public Health community or are a future student, prospective instructor or researcher, or potential partner, I invite you to join us in writing the next chapter of our history as we work together to advance healthy, equitable, and thriving communities.
