IMPACT Program

In the classroom, you will learn valuable knowledge and build your skills, but it is in co-curricular experiences that you apply what you have learned and put your skills into action. Through the College of Public Health IMPACT program, you will develop competencies that prepare you to join the workforce, engage in research, and make an impact in ways both large and small.

The IMPACT program is offered to all College of Public Health and School of Social Work students, and your progress will follow you through your time as a student. Your participation deepens your engagement in all of the activities and opportunities the college has to offer, focusing on core values that serve as the foundation of your professional and educational identity:

  • Inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility. We believe that health is a basic human right, and we work to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to find health and well-being.
  • Meaningful interprofessional education, research and practice: We affirm that working across professions is a mindset that is needed in the classrooms, workforce and research centers of tomorrow.
  • Personal and professional growth: Beyond the development of knowledge, we know that it is also important to develop a sense of self and to build toward career aspirations.
  • Advocacy to advance change: As health and social service professionals, we are leaders in speaking up to make way for change in our institutions, our communities and our professions.
  • Community building and collaboration: We are better together, bridging to the gap between academics and community partners to define the problems of the day and seek innovative solutions.
  • Translation of knowledge into research and research into practice: We work to create a cycle of change that includes both the generation of new knowledge and putting that knowledge to work in new practices, policies and systems to improve health.
What is the IMPACT Program?

During your time here, we encourage you to do more than just attend classes. The IMPACT program is your connection to resources at Temple, the college, and around the area that will enhance your academic program and better prepare you for your career. Our college is full of many opportunities—through IMPACT, these offerings are curated through Suitable, an easy-to-navigate web and mobile platform that helps you to keep track of all the activities you've explored. Examples of activities in the program include:

  • Special advising sessions on topics such as registration, financial literacy, scholarships and academic success
  • Connections to resources to help with your health and well-being
  • Research opportunities
  • Special committees and working groups
  • Community engagement and service opportunities
  • Nationally and internationally recognized guest speakers
  • Dean’s seminars
How will I benefit?

By participating in activities across the college, you will expand your personal and professional networks, hear from experts outside the classroom that open new doors to internships or research opportunities, and get involved in the college's efforts to address the health challenges of our day.

In addition, you will earn points and badges based on your completed activities within the IMPACT program. Each semester, we will offer prizes under different criteria, such as being among the top point-earners or first to complete a particular badge. Prizes will vary from CPH swag to coffee or lunch with college leadership to opportunities to speak with leaders in each of your fields.

You can easily access the dashboard in Suitable to see how many points you have collected and your standing in relation to classmates.

How do I get started?

You can start your IMPACT journey by setting up your Suitable account. Here’s how to get started:

  • Download the Suitable app
  • Register using your temple.edu email address
  • Be sure to give Suitable access to your camera to be able to scan QR codes for points
  • Turn on your Suitable notifications

Once you are set up in Suitable, proceed to the “Getting Started with IMPACT” badge, which will explain more about how to complete activities and earn points. Then, you're all set to browse the other badges and activities to see what else there is to do!
