The Ellen Schwartz Speech-Language-Hearing Center is home to the clinical component of MA in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science program. Graduate student clinicians provide services people of all ages with communication disorders under the direct supervision of Temple faculty who hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Pennsylvania licensure in speech-language pathology and/or audiology. 

Services offered

Therapy for Speech Sound Disorders

Clients of all ages are treated for speech sound disorders arising from delayed speech development, phonological problems, childhood apraxia of speech and neurological impairment. 

Aural rehabilitation for hearing-impaired

This service provides evaluation and treatment for people with impaired hearing. Activities include auditory training, speech reading, hearing conservation, maintenance of hearing aids and other assistive listening devices, articulation and language therapy.

Bilingual Services

We provide speech and language services for individuals from Spanish speaking backgrounds.  All services are provided by bilingual English Spanish graduate clinicians under the direct supervision of a bilingual speech-language pathologist who holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Pennsylvania licensure in Speech-Language Pathology. 

Language Interventions

Language intervention services are available for clients of all ages. We see children with language delays or disorders at preschool and school age as well as adults with language and/or learning disabilities. Non-native English speakers and people with chronic aphasia are also seen for treatment of their respective language differences or disorders.  We also provide services for adults and children who use AAC devices.

Stuttering Prevention

Preschool children who may be at risk for stuttering, and children and adults who stutter are seen for treatment. Group therapy as well as individual therapy is available. Speak now – a summer program for older children and teens who stutter is offered in early August each year at our Ambler PA campus. 

Voice Therapy

Clients of all ages with any type of voice disorder are seen for evaluation and treatment. These include clients with problems that affect quality, pitch, and/or volume of the voice. Those with medical problems, which may contribute to a voice disorder, are referred for additional services if needed. Our program also specializes in providing gender affirming voice therapy . 

Screening Services

Community centers, schools, and preschools, may contact us to arrange for our program to conduct speech and language screenings or hearing screenings at your site.
