The College of Public Health proudly honors alumnus John Kirby at Temple University’s annual Gallery of Success ceremony on October 12.
Kirby began his career as an occupational therapist after graduating from the Occupational Therapy program at Temple in 1992. From there, he moved through progressive positions as a clinician, director, vice president, chief operating officer and chief executive officer in various nonprofit, for-profit and academic healthcare organizations.
Currently, Kirby is the vice president of Hospital Services North at Virtua Health in Mount Laurel, NJ. Along with his involvement in other professional organizations, he is also a member of the Board of Visitors and the Advisory Board of the Occupational Therapy program at Temple’s College of Public Health.
In a recent interview, Kirby credited the teaching staff at Temple for opening his perspective to a wider career path than he originally envisioned for himself.
“The things that I remember most were the broad breadth of experience they brought to their job,” he said. “Being exposed to people who were well-experienced really lit that fire in me to say ‘I’m going to do more than occupational therapy. I’m going to pursue leadership.’”
Temple University’s Gallery of Success ceremony takes place at Mitten Hall on Oct. 12 from 6 - 4:30 p.m.
