Public Health Photo of the Month is a recurring series that shifts the spotlight from words to visuals, highlighting moments that define life across the Barnett College of Public Health through the lens of photographer Andrew Thayer.
Over the course of 2025, each featured image captured a distinct story—sometimes celebratory, sometimes serious, yet always deeply human. This special year-in-review brings several of Andrew’s favorite photographs together in one place. Rather than focusing on a single moment, the collection reflects the full rhythm of the year.
About the Photos: The images featured here span a wide range of settings and experiences: convocation and graduation, new spaces taking shape, and the people who bring them to life. Together, they document not just events, but atmosphere—the energy of a crowd, the focus of a student at work, the pride woven into shared traditions.
Why We Love Them: What ties these photos together is Andrew’s focus on being in the right place at the right time. He pays attention to light, movement, and framing, but he’s just as focused on what’s actually happening in front of him. “I try to capture what the moment really looks like,” Andrew said. “Nothing staged—just people doing the work.”
Seen together, these images reflect a year of real change across the College: 2025 marked the renaming of the college to the Barnett College of Public Health and the long-awaited opening of Paley Hall, the College’s new home. From familiar traditions to brand-new spaces, these photos document a year of transition, momentum, and everyday moments that helped define it.
