Public Health Photo of the Month is a recurring series that shifts the spotlight from words to visuals, showcasing standout work by CPH photographer Andrew Thayer. Each month, we feature an image that tells a story—capturing a moment, an idea, or an experience through his lens.
In the Words of the Photographer: This photo was taken in the Aramark Community Teaching Kitchen during the first day of classes in the new space. Long, stainless steel tables line the center of the kitchen, which will undoubtedly be scuffed and scratched over time by students preparing food.
On the first day of classes however, they sat perfectly shiny and clean, fresh out of the box. I noticed how they caught the light reflecting off the Bell Tower outside and distorted the shape of the structure, giving it an almost watercolor quality.
As a photographer, the most exciting things about Paley Hall opening is all the new possibilities for photos, seeing the college and its students in a new way. There are countless newly formed pockets of light and shadows and unexpected reflections like this one.
With all of the change the College has recently undergone, with a new name and in a new home, there are opportunities to see old things in a new way.
