Biography

Michelle Scarpulla is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Temple University’s College of Public Health. She earned her Master of Public Health in Community Health Education from Temple University and her Bachelor of Science in Public Health Administration from Stockton University. With more than 30 years of experience in public health, Michelle brings real-world experience into the classroom, helping students connect what they learn with the work they may do as public health professionals.

Michelle teaches courses across the undergraduate public health curriculum, including Fundamentals of Health Education, Community-Based Program Planning, Public Health Internship, and Introduction to Public Health Writing. Her teaching focuses on hands-on learning, professional skill development, and creating an inclusive classroom where students feel supported in exploring their interests and preparing for careers in public health. She has developed and revised courses to reflect the evolving needs of public health students and the field.
Before joining Temple, Michelle worked in a variety of public health and community settings as a health educator, sexuality education trainer, and community coordinator. These experiences continue to shape her approach to teaching and mentoring. She is particularly interested in helping students build practical skills, explore career opportunities, and see how public health concepts can be applied to real-world challenges.
Michelle is also involved in student mentorship, alumni engagement, curriculum development, and community partnerships. Her teaching and service reflect her commitment to helping students succeed at Temple and preparing them to make meaningful contributions to the public health field.
