Welcome to the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics where we are committed to the advancement of three core public health disciplines: epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental health! I am proud to serve as Chair of our department where we value our community and are proud that Temple University is deeply rooted in Philadelphia, a microcosm of the world, a place to explore and answer questions that improve the public’s health. We live our mission daily – to combine curiosity with rigorous, applied methods that lead us to compelling questions and impactful results to improve public health.
The department is continually growing and enhancing our training programs to increase the diversity within our disciplines to address today’s challenging and meaningful problems. We provide students with solid conceptual underpinnings for the study of health-related outcomes and well-being as well as applied, experiential training in cutting-edge methods. We also inspire students to translate their knowledge into action. Our department offers five popular graduate programs: MPH degrees in Epidemiology (in-person and online), Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health; MS in Public Health Data Science, and PhD in Epidemiology. We also administer a sought-after graduate certificate program in Applied Clinical Research. In addition, the department contributes to the College’s nationally recognized BS in Public Health and administers a minor in Applied Epidemiology. Through these programs, we strive to enhance population health and train the next generation of public health scholars and professionals.
Importantly, we have experienced significant growth in the scope and funding of our research programs in recent years. Our committed faculty contribute to public health advancements through their research and expertise in behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, environmental and occupational exposures, seroepidemiology and disease modeling, aging and cognitive decline, and cardiovascular disease as well as mediation, causal inference, missing data and measurement error, semiparametric regression, latent variable modeling, psychometrics, and statistical methods for neuroimaging data. In addition to various research labs and the Environmental Health Collaborative, the department administers the Biostatistics Core where faculty members provide consultation and engage in collaborative research within Temple and with various external partners.
