Welcome to the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
This is a truly remarkable department that bridges undergraduate and graduate education as well as multiple disciplines. We are home to undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Health Professions, Kinesiology, and Recreational Therapy and graduate programs in Athletic Training, Neuromotor Science, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Recreational Therapy. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we are advancing healthy, equitable, and thriving communities through innovative education, translational research, and person-centered practice.
Our educational programs challenge students in the classroom and beyond. We prepare our students to be real world ready which includes didactic lectures as well as service learning, simulated learning experiences, and clinical practice in the community. We work to advance diversity and pursue our work with cultural humility. Students from across programs have opportunities to learn together and be exposed to training from across disciplines. We have award-winning faculty who are themselves engaged in practice which ensures that our students are learning cutting edge techniques. Our staff are here to support our students and promote student success.
There is also a range of research going on in the department ranging from concussions and traumatic brain injuries to increasing range of motion for older adults to inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to sensorimotor and psychological influences on human movement. Our faculty and students are asking questions to address the challenges of the day and find ways to make a positive impact on our communities.
And our alumni are incredible. Our graduates go on to careers as healthcare professionals, as leaders in practice, researchers, and faculty in academia. We encourage our students to explore and take advantage of all opportunities while they are here as students because we know that it helps to set them up for success when they graduate. Our alumni come back to visit, some are collaborators on research, and many are adjunct faculty to help train the next generation.
We invite you to come visit us and learn more about the great work that is going on within the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
