Welcome to the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences which is housed in the Barnett College of Public health.
This interdisciplinary department offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise and Sport Science, Health Professions, Kinesiology, and Recreational Therapy as well as graduate programs in Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Recreational Therapy.
The ultimate goal of our programs is to provide a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to education. The primary focus is on the identification of evidence-based approaches to help prevent and treat a wide range of physiological and mental-health related diseases / conditions as well as acute- and long-term physical or psychological disabilities in effort to improve health and the human condition across the lifespan in our communities and beyond.
At both the undergraduate and graduate level there is an intentional emphasis on challenging our students inside the classroom and beyond. We aim to create an environment which encourages critical thinking and problem solving. Through interprofessional and multidisciplinary approaches, the Department provides wonderful opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to interact with world-renowned faculty and gain didactic, clinical, as well as hands-on and simulated research / learning experiences across a wide range of disciplines. There is also an emphasis on diversity, community engagement, cultural awareness, and compassion for individuals in our community and beyond. The shared vision is to provide multidisciplinary experience to our students in effort to educate the next generation of clinicians, educators, scholars, policymakers, thought-leaders etc. Of course, the department also has a wonderful team of staff who help to make all of this possible and are here to support our students and promote student success.
And we are deeply proud of our alumni base. Our graduates often go on to a wide range of careers including positions as healthcare professionals, as leaders in practice, researchers, and faculty in academia. Our alumni come back to visit, some are collaborators on research, and many are adjunct faculty to help train the next generation. We take a lot of pride in all of our prior and current students, faculty and staff. This collective group truly embodies what it means to be a Temple Own and Temple Made!!!
We invite you to come visit us, in the beautiful new Paley Hall on Temple’s main campus, and learn more about the great work that is going on within the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
