David Sarwer, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Partnerships at the Temple College of Public Health (CPH), has been named Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Founded in 1787, the College is the oldest institution of its kind in the United States and has played a pivotal role in the history of medicine in Philadelphia and the world. Sarwer’s nomination highlights his significant contributions to biomedical research and public health and his continued leadership in research over the 30 years he has been in Philadelphia.
Sarwer, who has been a member of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia’s Public Health Section for the past eight years, expressed his gratitude for the nomination. “To be nominated by Dr. Bob Sharrar, a luminary in the Philadelphia healthcare community, was a tremendous honor. I didn’t see it coming and was flattered beyond measure,” he said.
Bob Sharrar, MD, who leads the Public Health Section, praised Sarwer’s commitment to public health. “David has been a key figure in our work and has shown tremendous dedication to advancing public health. He’s a great candidate for this recognition and truly deserves it,” Sharrar noted. “Public health is crucial to our mission, and David exemplifies the kind of leadership we hope to see among our Fellows.”
Larry Kaiser, MD, who led the Temple University Health System for a decade before taking on the role of CEO at the College of Physicians following a distinguished 30-year career, also praised Sarwer’s contributions. "David Sarwer is a major figure in obesity research. His work has been invaluable to our educational mission, and I’m thrilled to see him recognized by our esteemed institution," Kaiser said.
For Sarwer, the nomination not only honors his work but also brings recognition to Temple’s College of Public Health. “Being named a Fellow is a fantastic opportunity to amplify CPH’s presence and continue building our legacy in public health,” Sarwer reflected. “It’s an honor to be part of the College of Physicians, and I look forward to future collaborations that will benefit our college and the broader public health community.”
Sarwer will officially be inducted into the College of Physicians of Philadelphia during a ceremony in May. This recognition marks a significant milestone in both Sarwer's career and the Temple College of Public Health’s continued rise in prominence within Philadelphia’s public health landscape.
