Temple University’s College of Public Health welcomed high school students from across the Philadelphia area for an immersive Healthcare Career Day. Organized by the PT Moves Me program in partnership with Temple’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Nursing programs, the event provided students with hands-on experience in careerpaths they might not encounter everyday.
From checking blood pressure to testing balance and examining anatomy models, students were able to explore what it really takes to work in healthcare—all while having fun! Temple’s DPT and Nursing students led the way, guiding the high schoolers through interactive activities that showed them just how dynamic and rewarding healthcare can be.
Seeing Temple’s commitment to community engagement in action, Dean Jennifer Ibrahim shared her pride. “Healthcare Career Day is more than just an event; it’s an investment in our community. By connecting these young students with current healthcare professionals and students, we’re opening doors to career pathways that can transform lives and strengthen our healthcare system,” she said. “I couldn’t be prouder of our students and faculty who are inspiring the next generation to shape the future of healthcare.”
The event was powered by the enthusiasm of PT Moves Me ambassadors, including second-year DPT students Katie Schiele and Hannah Sands, first-years Jordyn Head and Jackelyn Hughes, and third-years Dan Kim and Ayana Unwala. These student leaders brought the event to life, sharing their passion and knowledge with the visiting high schoolers.
Reflecting on the day, third-year DPT student Talia Rosati said, “Meeting these high school students reminded me of the excitement and curiosity I felt when I first started my own journey in physical therapy.”
For Temple University’s College of Public Health, Healthcare Career Day was not only an inspiring experience for the high school students but also a chance for Temple’s own students to give back to their community. By the end of the day, participants left with new knowledge, connections, and for many, a stronger interest in healthcare careers.
With this event, Temple University continues to lead the charge in creating a diverse, dedicated healthcare workforce ready to tackle tomorrow’s challenges—and it all starts with inspiring young minds right here in the City of Brotherly Love.
