Biography
Susan Brotherton is an instructor and alumnae of Temple’s School of Social Work. She is the former director of Philadelphia social services for the Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia where she served for eight years overseeing emergency, permanent supportive and permanent housing programs, anti-human trafficking programs, family case management services and food pantry programs. Prior to that role, she served as the director of the trauma-informed Red Shield Family Residence, an emergency housing program serving families in Philadelphia. Susan has represented the Salvation Army at conferences around the country presenting promising practices in trauma-informed care, creating trauma-sensitive cultures in human service organizations, serving families and youth experiencing homelessness, meeting the unique needs of survivors of commercial sexual exploitation, and understanding the intersection of adverse childhood experiences and human trafficking.
Currently, in addition to teaching, Susan serves as an organizational consultant providing staff development, supervision and training to human service agencies.
