Biography

Shawn Frapp, PhD, RN, CCRN-K, joins the faculty of Temple with two decades of clinical experience in Critical Care Nursing and an innovative program of research. As an Assistant Professor of Nursing, Dr. Frapp hopes to explore behavioral motivation in emerging young adult men with intersecting minority identifications. His research intends to bridge the gaps between race/ethnicity, orientation, gender identity, and socioeconomic status as motivators for behaviors that impact health outcomes throughout the life trajectory.

As a practicing clinician in Philadelphia, Dr. Frapp has been witness to the effects of structural inequities in health which deny and delay access to quality care simply related to the identity of the patient and community. Dr. Frapp’s research intends to reduce the disparity in traditional measures of health (mental health, suicidality, physiological well-being) as well as serve as the foundation for changes in health policy and legislation.

Dr. Frapp’s clinical experience in critical care and reproductive health makes him a passionate educator who hopes to instill a sense of wonder in his students. His expertise allows him the privilege to take clinically challenging concepts and make them understandable for students. His philosophy of service to the patient as a human first, reflects the intersection of his research and clinical practice. He is a firm believer in developing the next generation of nursing clinicians, leaders, and scientists to influence care delivery for the future.

As an emerging nurse scientist, Dr. Frapp has presented locally, regionally, nationally and internationally on topics related to his research and developing research program. He is certified in Adult Critical Care by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.
