Epidemiology and Biostatistics Research

We focus on addressing critical health issues at both the population and individual levels, with a particular emphasis on health disparities, infectious diseases, chronic conditions, environmental health, and health systems research.

Our work spans diverse areas, including the study of disease patterns, social determinants of health, and the development of innovative methodologies for data analysis. By leveraging large-scale data sets, epidemiological surveillance, and sophisticated statistical techniques, we aim to uncover insights that can inform public health policy, improve healthcare delivery, and ultimately lead to healthier communities. Our interdisciplinary approach fosters collaboration with other research institutions, healthcare providers, and policymakers to ensure that our findings have real-world impact.

The department maintains affiliations and partnerships with: Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia Department of Health, Philadelphia Water Department, The School District of Philadelphia, Public Health Management Corporation, and Temple Health.

BIOSTATISTICS CORE

The Biostatistics Core offers comprehensive statistical consultation and computational services to faculty, staff and students in the College of Public Health and throughout Temple University as well as faculty and researchers in other institutions, agencies and companies.

 

INCOMPLETE DATA METHODS LAB

The Incomplete Data Methods Lab is centered around missing data issues in cases with complex data structures as well as pragmatic missing data solutions that can address a number of practical and computational issues.

 

PSYCHOMETRICS LAB

The Psychometrics Lab provides biostatistical support for pre- and post-doctoral training applications and external grant applications.

 

WEINSTEIN LAB

Research in the Weinstein Lab advances statistical methods in brain health research, aiming to improve studies of brain health across the lifespan.

Environmental Health Research

HUMAN EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT LAB (HEAL)

The Human Exposure Assessment Lab seeks to develop and implement evidence-based interventions to reduce the population's exposure to chemical and non-chemical stressors.

 

WATER, HEALTH AND APPLIED MICROBIOLOGY (WHAM) LAB

The Water, Health and Applied Microbiology Laboratory primarily focuses on microbiological contamination of water supplies and the subsequent impacts on public health.

Epidemiology Research

BEHAVIORAL AND CANCER EPIDEMIOLOGY RESEARCH PROGRAM

The Behavioral and Cancer Epidemiology Research Program in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is focused on examining the behavioral and biological determinants of cancer in the general and underserved populations.

 

KULICK LAB

The Kulick Lab focuses on the identification and study of novel risk factors for brain aging in the population, primarily in underserved and minority communities.

 

WIENS LAB (infectious diseases)

The Wiens Lab utilizes seroepidemiology, spatial analysis and disease modeling to better understand infectious disease burden.

 

KIDNEY CANCER PREVENTION RESEARCH

The Kidney Cancer Prevention Research Program in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is dedicated to impactful research that is translatable to the primary and secondary prevention of cancer.
