Every month, faculty in the College of Public Health take part in a range of scholarly activities; below are the activities for the months of August and September 2023.

Presentations and Speaking Engagements
Ann Dolloff, Bryan McCormick, Gretchen Snethen, Gena Bell Vargas, and Aurora Verlin presented at the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) Conference.
Mark Salzer gave a series of trainings to staff at Veterans Services of North Carolina, as well as other trainings for Conexio Care Community Services in Delaware, the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (NC AHEC), the Weitzman ECHO Peer Recovery Specialist Community, and Trillium Health Resources in North Carolina.*
Alissa Smethers presented "Stable isotope ratios and dietary Intake: You are what you eat" at the Association of Chemoreception Sciences Career Networking seminar series.*
Susannah Anderson presented on "Menstrual Management Amid Dual Disasters: A Qualitative Study of the Effects of Cyclone Idai and COVID-19" at the City MatCH Conference in New Orleans.
Christopher Wheldon presented on “Examining the role of anal dilator use in sexual rehabilitation of gay and bisexual prostate cancer patients” at the Annual Meeting of the International Academy of Sex Research in Montreal. The presentation earned the Best Senior Poster Award.
Ryan McKee presented on Sexual Hazing as part of Hazing Prevention Week.
Graciela Jaschek gave a 90-minute interactive presentation to approximately 20 health promoters at the Hospital Municipal de Enriquillo in the Dominican Republic on successful health communication.
Inkyu Han presented "Assessing Personal Air Exposure to VOCs in Hispanic Women Working as Domestic Cleaners in South Texas, 2022-2023" at the International Society of Exposure Science conference in Chicago.
Han also presented on "Seasonal and fractional variability of particle-bound PAHs in an urban environment." at the National Environmental Monitoring Conference. in Minneapolis.*
Resa Jones presented "Oncologists’ responsibility, comfort, and knowledge managing hyperglycemia in patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy" at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy annual meeting in Aurora, Colorado.*
Appointments and Accolades
Gabriella McLoughlin received the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) High-Impact Author Award as the most highly cited author in JNEB for 2023.
Yaara Zisman-Ilani was appointed as a systematic reviews consultant to the editor of Psychiatric Services (Published on behalf of the American Psychiatric Association).
Erin Kulick was selected as Co-Chair of the Diversity and Disparities PIA Social and Structural Determinants of Health Work Group at the Alzheimer's Association.
Inkyu Han was named to a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Scientific Advisory Board Member on the Public Health Standing Committee.
Wenxue Lin received the 2023 University of Oklahoma (OU) Hudson College of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology’s Young Alumni Professional Award.
Other Activities
Graciela Jaschek, Inkyu Han, and Kerstin Wiens traveled to Cusco, Peru, to meet with the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco's provost and dean of the School of Medicine to discuss the final revisions to the international agreement between the two universities.
The group also met with the epidemiology team at the Ministry of Health in Cusco (GERESA) to develop two collaborative research projects. They then travelled to the Combapata community, where medical, dental, and nursing students can complete a three-month internship to discuss Public Health Beyond Borders student activities for summer 2024.
Jaschek also traveled to Enriquillo and Penalba in the Dominican Republic with Public Health Beyond Borders students. Students conducted 36 household interviews, tested water quality at three sources, educated and distributed posters in five small businesses, conducted a
hand-washing intervention in Penalba's elementary school, and had discussions with groups of high school students at four grade levels.
Christopher Wheldon was featured in the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center Newsletter on "Promoting Pride in HPV Vaccination Among LGBTQIA+ Communities."*
