Mark F. Schmitz, PhD is an associate professor at the School of Social Work. Dr. Schmitz has expertise in a variety of statistical methodologies, including structural equation modeling, hierarchical linear modeling and complex sampling designs. He has extensive experience in program evaluation and has published numerous articles from his research in mental health and psychiatric epidemiology. He teaches advanced statistics, research methods and foundation and advanced theory courses on human behavior and the social environment within the social work program. He has presented numerous seminars on structural equation modeling and on qualitative research methods. His current research involves the use of several large epidemiologic datasets for an extensive examination of the empirical basis for the diagnostic criteria of various DSM-IV mental disorders.
