Occupational Therapy (OTD)

The Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD)

Temple’s Online Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy is a post-professional, non-research-based program designed for currently licensed occupational therapists who want to enhance their careers and advance to leadership positions. Occupational therapists who hold a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy enter into the OTD program through the post-professional OT certificate program. Our OTD opens doors for new careers and leadership opportunities in clinical and academic environments. Students develop advanced clinical expertise in interdisciplinary areas such as community practice, entrepreneurial innovation and higher education.

Our program can be tailored to your area of interest in traditional and emerging areas of occupational therapy. Our faculty are recognized experts in child and youth development, adult rehabilitation, community-based practices, and promoting inclusive policies at institutional and legislative levels.

With Temple’s Online OTD, you’ll be prepared to:

  • Use, promote and advance client-centered and evidence-based practices
  • Advance occupational therapy’s role in promoting a person’s participation in society, in consideration of societal needs, policies and trends
  • Bring clinically relevant and fresh perspectives to a situation
  • Enact individual action and social reform to foster productive and meaningful living

What will my Temple OTD do for me?

Occupational therapy is one of the fastest-growing professions in the country. As our population ages and our healthcare system changes, occupational therapists are more important than ever. Many of our graduates use their Temple OTD degree to move into leadership and higher education teaching positions.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of occupational therapists to grow by 27% from 2014-2027—much faster than the average for all occupations.
