Dr. Nanette J. Tomicek completed her Ph.D. in Physiology at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) and a B.S. in Biology with College Honors at Westminster College (New Wilmington, PA). Her dissertation was titled “Estrogen Receptor Beta and Adiponectin as Targets in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease.” Her research has resulted in four peer-reviewed publications and a variety of presentations at national venues.

Dr. Tomicek was an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Biology Department at Penn State for five years. She taught human physiology lectures and labs and served as the department’s physiology laboratory coordinator where she managed grad and undergraduate student teaching assistants, serving over 1,000 students in allied health fields annually. She was also an academic advisor for undergraduate biology majors. She co-authored and edited several versions of a physiology laboratory manual and also updated surgical training and dissection videos. She is also experienced in online education having adapted a biology of sex course for Penn State World Campus students.

Dr. Tomicek is a proud member of the international organization, the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and regular conference presenter and attendee. Dr. Tomicek joins the Department of Kinesiology as an Assistant Professor of Instruction and will serve as anatomy and physiology laboratory coordinator.
