Biography

Jeffrey S. Gehris, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology.  The focus of his work is teaching within the department's Physical and Health Education Teacher Education (PHETE) program.  He instructs the main content courses within this program and supervises practicum and student teachers.  Dr. Gehris's research interests focus on the role of movement experiences in early childhood development and education.  He has published research on the topic of young children's movement and learning based on his work with Head Start teachers, and has developed courses on this topic for undergraduate and graduate students as well as working professionals in the field of early childhood care and education.  Dr. Gehris also teaches older adults through Temple's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, where he instructs a course about the relationship between experiences in natural settings and adult well-being.  His professional service includes serving as Chairperson of the Early Childhood Advisory Group of the Society of Health and Physical Educators.
