Position Summary: Universal Health Services. The Director, Clinical Decision Support, provides leadership and assumes ultimate accountability for development, implementation, and coordination of system-wide clinical quality performance metrics. Deploys healthcare measurement and evaluation tolls to assess and improve clinical performance across the continuum of care for all facilities. The role reports to VP of Quality Management. Directs, coordinates, documents, and is ultimately accountable for all system-wide clinical decision support activities. Ensures successful implementation of performance metrics integrating both clinical and operational aspects.
Position Requirements: Employee is required to have 8 - 10 years experience with a Masters degree in Finance, Evaluative Clinical Sciences, Health Care Management, or other related area of health care focus. Expertise in biostatistics, oversight for computer programming, and healthcare improvement metrics. Expert knowledge of health and safety management strategies, regulatory readiness, quality improvement and continuous improvement methodologies and tools. Expert working knowledge of systems theory and statistics. Expert knowledge of healthcare regulations, guidelines and standards. Experienced in the use of statistical process control, severity adjustment and benchmarking software and databases.

Position Summary continued: Develops, leads, and directs clinical decision support programs through planned, systematic, and ongoing processes for monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality of care provided. Directs the efforts of the clinical decision support initiatives to ensure overall compliance with all regulatory standards including national, state, and NCQA, CMS, AHRQ, NQF, and TJC requirements. Utilizes quality improvement tools and methods to improve processes that affect the reliability and validity of data. Provides guidance and feedback to team management, administrators and department heads on their application of quality improvement data, utilizing analytic principles, concepts and problem solving tools and techniques. Designs activities to promote and publicize implementation of performance metrics to employees, medical staff members and the community. Communicates and collaborates with others within and outside the organization to facilitate and coordinate performance measurement services, including, but not limited to, pharmacy, care management, hospitalists, organized medial groups, health plans, independent physicians, and hospital staff. Acts as a liaison and primary contact for outside agencies related to health outcome information. Works collaboratively with healthcare providers and the EMR team to develop disease management metrics, develop technological strategies, and support processes to facilitates implementation of strategies. Develops capital and operational budgets. Routinely monitors, manages and controls budget, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action, and develops plans for productivity improvements. Participates as an active member on hospital/health system/community committees. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars, etc. Maintains peer relationships in the field to share issues/ideas. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
