The Office of Community Engaged Research and Practice partners with College of Public Health faculty, staff, students and alumni to recognize, appreciate and serve our neighbors surrounding Main Campus and communities across Philadelphia.

During CPH Give Back Days, representatives from programs across the college work together to organize activities that make a meaningful impact on local community organizations. In spring 2021, a group of volunteers sorted clothes donations and cleaned the grounds at Bethel Presbyterian Church in North Philadelphia. Check out photos from the day below:

In fall 2021, we're continuing our efforts to support our neighbors by organizing two donation collections:

  • Collecting personal hygiene items and clothing for St. Francis Inn, an organization located in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood that assists those living in poverty and without housing
  • In partnership with Berean Presbyterian Church and the Office of Community Affairs, CPH is collecting non-perishable Thanksgiving food items. Together with the contributions of Community Affairs and Berean Presbyterian Church, 50 local families will be provided full Thanksgiving meals.

For our fall 2021 CPH Give Back Day, volunteers will assist Berean Presbyterian Church in packing and distributing boxes of non-perishables that were donated to our food drive collection.

We've also partnered with a local non-profit organization to provide a virtual Give Back Day participation option. Jane Addams Place provides support for families navigating homelessness to find the stability and dignity they deserve. Here, families receive comprehensive case management services, trauma therapy and nutritious meals while they plan their next steps. If you are unable to attend in person but are still interested in making an impact on Give Back Day, we encourage you to purchase an item from Jane Addams Place's Amazon Wishlist.
