More Than a Bump on the Head: Post-Acute Rehabilitation after Brain Injury - Children, Adolescents, and Adults
The Temple University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is pleased to present the 17th Annual Barbara P. Mastriano Communiversity
With the recent attention to traumatic brain injury, particularly from sports and recreational activities, speech-language pathologists in a variety of settings are called upon to assess and treat communication and cognitive issues as affected individuals return to school, home, and work environments. Many of us feel ill-prepared to manage the complex and variable constellation of neurophysiological, cognitive, motor, and linguistic impairments that are commonly encountered post TBI. The morning presentations will provide an overview of TBI including common terminology, neuroimaging, as well as consequences and effective management of concussion. Participants will select an afternoon workshop in either a pediatric or adult track which will focus on the role of the SLP in evaluation, treatment, and coordination of care for individuals with TBI as they reintegrate into the community.
