My Lens… Our Issues: Temple Students’ Expression of the Opioid Crisis

The opioid crisis in Philadelphia affects the students at Temple University, directly and indirectly. This project is a student focused examination of stigma around opioid use disorder (OUD) and barriers to treatment and recovery for OUD in our community. We seek up to 50 students to create original images and artwork to present in virtual group discussions where images/artwork will be described, captioned and chosen for public display as evidence for change.  Expressions of racial injustice around drug use and incarceration are welcome here.

The project is facilitated by Drs. Deirdre Dingman (Social and Behavioral Sciences) and Marsha Zibalese–Crawford (School of Social Work).

To participate in the My Lens... Our Issues project you are requested to:

  • be a current Temple student,
  • have an understanding of the opioid crisis,
  • be available for activities occurring from June to September 2020 (e.g., Canvas and Zoom),
  • commit to working collaboratively in group discussions, and
  • sign a participant agreement.
  • Students can receive up to $40 in Amazon gift cards for participating

Let your voices be heard! The anticipated outcome of the project is to influence Temple policy and services around substance use.
