Temple University’s research engine is generating discoveries from schools and colleges across the university. This seminar will showcase the diverse mix of technology under development at Temple and how these technologies are advancing through a continuum of programs available to our research community. Recent discoveries include microsphere taste strips for drug delivery, interventional catheter-based therapies, naturally derived wound healing materials, next-generation lithium-ion battery materials, virtual reality based rehab for balance impairment, and therapeutics for cancer and HIV. These are just a few examples from the 455 inventions created, 180 patents filed and 72 patents awarded in the past 5 years. Industry partnerships provide the pathway to transfer this intellectual property to market, often resulting in research funding back to the inventors and the potential for royalties. Nearly one third of these partnerships are the result of Temple’s efforts to support new spinout companies formed to commercialize an invention. Participants in this seminar will learn when to protect their ideas, what forms of intellectual property protection are available, how to access key technology development resources, and the various forms of industry collaborations that can support their research.
