Biography

Matthew Sayers is a licensed speech-language pathologist and a doctoral candidate in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. He received his BA in Latin American studies from Johns Hopkins University, and his MS in speech-language pathology from La Salle University. Matthew worked as a speech-language pathologist in adult acute care settings for seven years before returning to graduate school to pursue his doctoral degree. In his clinical work, Matthew provided speech-language, voice and swallowing services to a diverse population of patients, designed and implemented interdisciplinary trainings, and mentored several speech pathology graduate students. 

Matthew's research is focused on verbal short-term memory impairments in people with aphasia. He is interested in leveraging data from verbal short-term memory tasks to develop detailed impairment profiles and treatments for people with aphasia. Additionally, he is interested in relationships between input processing abilities and performance in output tasks, such as naming and repetition. His dissertation research will examine the differential effects response delays for naming and repetition in people with aphasia.
